SPONSORED WALK AND WHEELCHAIR PUSH

Well, everyone turned up at Roundhay Park ........

for the Friends of PHAB LEEDS 40th Anniversary

replacement minibus appeal

in Roundhay Park, Sunday 3rd October 2010

opened by
The Lord Mayor of Leeds
and
The Lady Mayoress of Leeds

Councillor James McKenna
and
Councillor Andrea McKenna

but what a day it was!
It had started to rain at midnight and was still raining at mid-day......

The Burgerbar Van and the Icecream Van were installed at 8.00am, and the Garforth Lions were ready at 8.30am to put up all the marquees....the Salvation Army were ready to play....and the Steel Band were on the way.....and Roundhay Rotary Club came to marshal.......and minibuses of PHAB members arrived.......

and the rain bounced off the ground harder than
it has ever rained before......

and then the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Leeds arrived.....

BUT PHAB was not daunted....the show must go on...
and we must not disappoint our Sponsors!

We took refuge in the LAKESIDE CAFE...some of the regular customers who had come for a quiet Sunday morning coffee were surprised....but soon joined in the party.  Our celebrity guest Jimmy Savile joined in the fun....and the Sponsored Wheelchair Push did go ahead......but the park was too wet for the wheelchairs....so we did circuits round the carpark.

Our thanks go to

the brave people who were not put off by the weather
and
our Sponsors who have made contributions to our
Replacement Minibus appeal.
