Entrance to the Club is through
the wide Ginnel half-way round Scott Hall Avenue
PHAB in Leeds meets on Friday evenings between 7.00 and 9.15.
We have vacancies in the PHAB youth group for children and young people with a physical or mild learning disability aged 9 – 25. Although we are an all age Club there may be a waiting list for disabled members over 25.
Any prospective member is welcome to visit the Club. We ask them to come with a family member, friend or a social worker for the initial visit. The possibility of transport can be discussed with our Transport Manager.
PHAB is always fun. Sometimes the young disabled members bring along their disabled school friends. Able bodied siblings or friends are very welcome at PHAB.
We also welcome new able bodied members/volunteers whatever age, but particularly teenage ‘buddies’.
We are not a Club for ‘disabled people’ but a club where ‘disabled people can socialise with able bodied friends’. We are a PHAB Club - the emphasis is on 'ability' integration and inclusion.
Many disabled members are initially referred by social workers because they have a disability. Often there is another need, unable to get out and make friends, the person is very lonely.
Each member who comes to PHAB finds friendship, and has chance to forget about their illness and disability and relax.
The Programme is varied. Small group activities on Friday evenings can include:
- a making music group and a computer room
- craft sessions – making valentine cards, decorating Easter Eggs,
- indoor and outdoor sports, PHAB’s version of rounders and wheelchair football. Health and relaxation sessions
- the older members always enjoy a game of BINGO
- and we enjoy Disco evenings and parties

Yes, and parties too. . .
for instance, we had lots of fun at the Christmas party 2011
The cost to join PHAB is minimal. The PHAB members have a Members’ Committee and raise funds themselves to cover Friday evening activities.
