Transport

The success of the PHAB Club in Leeds is our transport.
Friends of PHAB’s work of helping people with a disability (many members are in wheelchairs) is made possible as we have our own specially adapted minibuses.
Many of our members come from homes in Leeds inner city, without cars, or sometimes it is not possible to get the wheelchairs into their cars.
Without PHAB these disabled people have to spend most of their time at home, either in front of a TV or computer.
Friends of PHAB have four vehicles specially equipped to ensure our disabled members travel in comfort and safety. These are driven by voluntary drivers.
We have rotas and each voluntary driver collects members from a different area of Leeds.
WE REQUIRE HELP FROM VOLUNTARY DRIVERS aged between 25 and 55 who are very fit, responsible, and experienced drivers with a clean driving licence who are able to drive on a Friday evening between 6.00 and 10.00pm. They will also have the opportunity to take part in the PHAB OUTINGS and PHAB RESIDENTIALS throughout the year.
WE REQUIRE NEW VOLUNTARY DRIVERS:
They must have CRB checks and we require two up to date referees for any new voluntary drivers.
HEALTH & SAFETY TRAINING IS PARAMOUNT. We offer regular training for our volunteers in Basic First Aid, Moving & Handling of people in Wheelchairs, and MIDAS. CRB’s are reviewed regularly.
The PHAB fun starts the moment the vehicle draws up outside the member’s home.
WE ALSO REQUIRE HELP WITH OUR FUND RAISING – the specially adapted minibuses cost almost £30,000 each – (We hope each vehicle will last about 8 – 10 years).......and the vehicle insurance costs us over £4,000 a year.
